		<description><![CDATA[The National Museum of the American Indian is dedicated to the life, languages, literature, history, and arts of the indigenous inhabitants of the United States. Under the auspices of the Smithsonian Institution, it has three facilities. One of those facilities is the George Gustav Heye Center, a permanent museum that is housed in the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House near the southern tip of Manhattan. The National Museum of the American Indian is home to the collection of the former Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation, which owns more than 800,000 objects and a photographic archive of 125,000 images.
