Militaria are military or police artifacts and replicas collected for their historical significance. Antiques in this category include common weapons such as firearms, swords and knives, and related equipment such as uniforms, helmets, other headgear and armor. This broad classification comes to encompass military orders, decorations, challenge coins and awards, badges, insignia, military art, sculptures and prints. Also included are ephemera (objects that were not originally intended to be retained or preserved) such as cigarette cards, photographs, antiquarian books, magazines and posters, as well as scale models, toy soldiers, combat equipment and field gear. Collectors of military antiques are a diverse group, spanning the range from families with collections of militaria passed down from generation to generation, to those who collect militaria for investment purposes, to those who are fascinated by the stories and provenance associated with each item. |
