Fort Montgomery was built during the American Revolution near Bear Mountain in present-day Orange County, New York. Situated on a cliff promontory rising 100 feet above the Hudson River, the fortifications consisted of six 32-pound cannons, a boom and cable across the Hudson River and landward redoubts connected by ramparts. The fort was destroyed by the British on October 6, 1777 in the Battle of Fort Montgomery. Trails and interpretive signs guide visitors through the ruins of the fort. The timber frame visitor center provides visitors with a "gun sight" view down the Hudson River and contains artifacts from the original Fort [...]

The Kingston Stockade District is an eight-block area in the western section of Kingston, New York. It is the site of the mid-17th century Dutch settlement of Wiltwyck, which was renamed Kingston when it passed to English control. Within the Kingston Stockade District are many buildings from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, including the original Ulster County courthouse and the Senate House, which is where the state of New York was established in 1777. Most of the older buildings were restored and rebuilt in the years following the 1777 burning of Kingston by the [...]

The Cold Spring Historic District includes much of the central area of the Hudson River village of Cold Spring in Putnam County, New York, giving the town its quaint character. Most of the houses and other buildings were built in the years preceding the Civil War, when the nearby West Point Foundry was at the peak of its production. The West Point Foundry was an ironworks that operated from 1817 to 1911, and became famous for its production of Parrott rifles and other munitions during the Civil War. Today's Cold Spring Historic District includes over 200 buildings, of which many contribute to the historical integrity and architectural qualities of the [...]

The West Point Museum is situated directly adjacent to the visitor's center at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Based upon captured British materials brought to West Point after the British defeat at Saratoga in 1777, the collections actually predate the founding of the military academy there. The Museum contains what is considered to be the oldest, largest and most diversified public collection of miltaria in the Western Hemisphere. Its collections encompasses the history of West Point, the evolution of warfare, and the development of the American Armed [...]
